Being a City fan is no picnic. We face adversity from the off. When at school I had to put up with the sneering, hostile football bullies who rejoiced that not only was I thin, weedy and bespectacled, but joy upon joy I was a CITY FAN.
But to me then and now that was what it was about. it's not about being a supporter its a way of life, facing everything and anything with a wry smile and an unshakeable belief that it would be alright in the end.
At the end of 1998 both City and I were at our lowest ebbs, me fresh out of rehab and City had slipped disastrously down two divisions. That is when I decided that our joint recoveries were a real possibility and that I would attend as many games as I could allowing for my sweating, shaking, farting days, which is common in early recovery.
And so started the comeback. City depleted and skint and me frightened of buses or anything else large and noisy. Who remembers that crap December day at York City or that endless journey to Lincoln on a Tuesday night or climbing over that fence at Wigan and eventually the final at Wembley stadium, a game that almost sent me back on the booze. Eddie Large told me that after that game he went to see his heart specialist as his ticker was not as it should be. After the examination the doctor asked what caused such stress, so Eddie talked him through the game kick by kick. When he had finished the DOCTOR had to lie down.
I could go on and on but after many upheavels , new bloody dawns and it has to be said bizzare goings on for the blue faithful, we find ourslves on a ...wait for it....a new era. Dare we hope, dare we believe, can it be true or is it another blue mystery, like Stephen Ireland's hair?
However fellow blues, we are still the most entertaining football club on earth and moreover God's own team.
Keep the faith
Cheers
